What would you do
If I said, “Mice go moo!”
Would you madly miaow like a mule
Or guffaw like a goat
From the back of your throat
And emphatically call me a fool?
What would you think
If I said, “Skunks are pink!”
Would you turn just as blue as a setter
Or go grey as a jay
As you say with dismay,
“The poor lad doesn’t know any better”?
What would you care
If I said, “Eels are square!”
Would you squeal with an air of convention
And then roundly declare
In a tone of despair,
“He should be in a house of detention!”?
What will you say
When they take me away
Screaming, “Sanity’s less fun than madness!”?
Will you gleefully grin
Or, with sorrow within,
Say, “He brought us a smile in our sadness”?
