I’ve written over 400 poems and people often ask which are my favourites and why.

It’s a hard question to answer because I have many and for different reasons. Silv’rilocks, for example, (Goldilocks at age 90) parodies the original in unexpected ways. First published in “A Pun — My Word!” but also included in “A Pun in the Oven” available as a free download here [https://www.philmaund.com/download/a-pun-in-the-oven/]. What I like about it most is that it digresses and goes off at a tangent and then returns to the main story line completely seamlessly.

The Owl and the Pussycat — What Really Happened is also high on the list. It contains all the characters (e.g. the pig with the ring) and items (the runcible spoon) from Edward Lear’s masterpiece and mirrors its unusual structure precisely. If you know the original, you’ll understand mine better.

Robbie the kitten is another that I’m particularly fond of. He’s such a cute little character who elicits a lot of sympathy but what I like is that the main story flows so smoothly it can be read almost without taking a breath.

For pun-density, the beauty queen who falls pregnant is hard to beat with 4 puns in one line. Both of the above are in “A Flash in the Pun”.
