Father’s, son’s unholy spirits
Clawing, gnawing at their souls
Each other’s and their own – not knowing
Acid’s teeth gouge gruesome holes
Not knowing? Damned, shamed Lie grows, hungry
Nursed by justifying greys
Inspired by self’s complicit labours
Burning, burned in acid’s maze
Light is dawning, truth is rising
Lie pants, hunkered ’neath the stairs
The surgeon’s bloodhounds slaver, hungry
Bred by desp’rate faith-doubt prayers
Cornered, bitten, Lie lies dying
Truth defying to the end
Who am I without his purpose?
What, without my oldest friend?
Father, Son and Holy Spirit
Cleanse with justifying grace
Mould with your redeeming power
Heal with love’s dare-hope embrace
I yield to you my heart, my spirit,
Failures, follies, fungal fears
Give ear, O God! Come save, my Saviour!
Redeem this shattered sinner’s tears!
